White Bass

White bass, often called 'sand bass,' offer fast-paced fishing action in the Houston area, particularly during their spring spawning runs. The Trinity River and its tributaries are prime locations. These fish migrate upstream to spawn, creating excellent opportunities for bank and boat anglers. Small crankbaits, spinners, and jigs are all effective lures. A practical tip is to focus on areas with current breaks and rocky bottoms. Another local tactic is to use tandem rigs, with two small lures tied in-line to increase your chances of a strike. White bass in this region are known for their schooling behavior, so when you find one, you'll often find many. Check river levels before heading out, as high water can make access difficult and affect fishing success.
