Largemouth Bass

Head to the Ozark foothills near Altus, Arkansas, and you'll find some hidden gems for largemouth bass fishing. While not as well-known as some of the larger reservoirs in the state, the smaller lakes and ponds scattered around Altus offer a more intimate and less crowded fishing experience. Spring and fall are the prime times to target largemouth here, as they are actively feeding in preparation for spawning or winter. Focus on areas with submerged timber, weed beds, and rocky points. A local tip: many of these smaller bodies of water are accessible only by foot or with small boats, so be prepared for some walking and consider using a kayak or canoe. Also, be aware that water levels can fluctuate depending on rainfall, so check conditions before you go. The bass in these waters can be surprisingly large, often exceeding 5 pounds, due to the limited fishing pressure.
