Largemouth Bass

Bellefonte, Arkansas offers some excellent largemouth bass fishing, particularly in the Buffalo National River watershed and nearby smaller lakes and ponds. While the Buffalo itself isn't known for huge bass, the slower-moving backwaters and feeder creeks can hold some surprisingly good fish. Spring is prime time, as the bass move shallow to spawn. Look for them around submerged timber and vegetation. Fall can also be productive as the fish feed up before winter. A local tip: focus on the transition areas where the creek channels meet the main river or pond. These areas tend to concentrate baitfish and, consequently, bass. Also, be aware that water levels in the Buffalo River can fluctuate dramatically, so check conditions before you go. The bass here tend to be opportunistic feeders, so a variety of lures, from crankbaits to soft plastics, can be effective.
