Largemouth Bass

Damascus, Arkansas, provides access to some under-appreciated largemouth bass fishing opportunities in the surrounding lakes and rivers. Greers Ferry Lake, while a larger, more well-known fishery nearby, can sometimes overshadow the smaller gems closer to Damascus. Local anglers often target the Little Red River below Greers Ferry Dam, or the smaller lakes dotting the landscape. Spring and fall are the best times to target bass, as water temperatures are moderate and the fish are actively feeding. A local tip is to fish the riprap along the Highway 65 bridge over the Little Red River; crankbaits and spinnerbaits can be very effective here. Be aware of generation schedules from Greers Ferry Dam, as water levels can fluctuate rapidly and impact fishing conditions. Smaller, more secluded lakes often require a small boat or kayak, but can offer solitude and excellent fishing.
