Largemouth Bass

Humnoke, Arkansas, offers some excellent largemouth bass fishing, primarily in the numerous oxbow lakes and sloughs connected to the Arkansas River. These backwaters provide ideal habitat for bass, with plenty of cover in the form of submerged timber, vegetation, and lily pads. Spring is undoubtedly the prime time, as bass move shallow to spawn. Target the shallows with spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and soft plastics. Summer can be tougher, but early morning and late evening topwater action can be explosive. Access to many of these lakes is via boat ramps located along the Arkansas River; be sure to check water levels before heading out, as they can fluctuate significantly. Local anglers often have success flipping jigs and Texas-rigged worms into heavy cover. The bass in this area are known for their chunky builds, thanks to the abundant forage.
