Largemouth Bass

Northeast Arkansas offers some surprisingly good largemouth bass fishing, and the area around Sidney is no exception. While you won't find sprawling reservoirs here, focus on the smaller lakes, ponds, and slow-moving sections of the Strawberry River and its tributaries. These waters offer ideal habitat for bass, especially around submerged timber, weed beds, and rocky outcroppings. Spring is prime time, as the bass move shallow to spawn. Topwater lures and spinnerbaits work well in the shallows during this period. Fall can also be productive as the fish feed up before winter. A local tip: many ponds are on private land, so always seek permission before fishing. Also, be aware that water levels in the Strawberry River can fluctuate rapidly after heavy rains, impacting fishing conditions. The bass here tend to be scrappy fighters, often ambushing prey from heavy cover.
