Largemouth Bass

Mortons Gap, Kentucky, while a smaller town, provides access to some excellent largemouth bass fishing in nearby lakes and ponds. The numerous small lakes and strip mine lakes that dot the landscape around Mortons Gap are the key to finding quality bass fishing. Spring is a fantastic time to visit, as bass move shallow to spawn. Focus on areas with submerged vegetation, fallen timber, and rocky points. Summer can be productive as well, but shift your focus to deeper water during the heat of the day. Try fishing crankbaits, Carolina rigs, or Texas-rigged worms around structure. One local tip: many of these lakes have limited access, so be sure to research access points and obtain permission if fishing on private land. The bass in this region tend to be aggressive, so don't be afraid to experiment with different lures and techniques.
