Striped Bass

While not as common as largemouth bass, striped bass can be found in some of the larger lakes near Mortons Gap, Kentucky. Stripers are stocked in some of the deeper reservoirs in the region. Spring and fall are the best times to target them, as they follow baitfish schools. Look for areas with steep drop-offs, points, and submerged channels. Trolling with crankbaits or live bait is a popular and effective technique. During the summer months, stripers often move to deeper, cooler water, so downrigging or jigging can be productive. A local tip is to check with local bait shops for information on recent stocking efforts and current fishing reports. Also, be sure to have a good understanding of the lake's structure, as stripers tend to congregate in specific areas. These fish can get quite large, so be sure to use appropriate tackle.
