Striped Bass

Williamsburg, Kentucky, puts you within striking distance of some great striped bass fishing. Lake Cumberland is the main draw, holding a solid population of these prized gamefish. The best time to target stripers is during the spring spawning run when they move up the lake’s major tributaries. Look for them near the mouths of the Big South Fork and the Cumberland River itself. Trolling large swimbaits or crankbaits is a popular and effective technique. Live bait fishing with alewives or shad can also be deadly. During the summer, stripers tend to move deeper, so focus on fishing near the dam or in the main lake channel. A handy tip: pay attention to the thermocline, as stripers often congregate just above it. Also, the boat ramp at Conley Bottom Resort provides excellent access to the lake's prime striper fishing areas.
