Largemouth Bass

Bronson, Michigan, offers a classic Midwestern bass fishing experience. This area is dotted with numerous small to medium-sized lakes and ponds, many of which hold healthy populations of Largemouth Bass. The diverse aquatic vegetation in these lakes provides ample habitat. Anglers should focus on areas with lily pads, milfoil, and submerged wood. Spring (May-June) is prime time, as the bass move shallow to spawn. Topwater lures like frogs and buzzbaits can be incredibly effective early and late in the day. Summer fishing can be productive by targeting deeper weed lines with Texas-rigged worms or crankbaits. A good starting point is Long Lake, which has a public access site. Be aware that many of the smaller lakes are private or have limited access, so do your research beforehand. The bass in these waters tend to be relatively unpressured, so even smaller presentations can entice a strike.
