Largemouth Bass

While Clawson isn't known for massive lakes, determined anglers can still find Largemouth Bass in the smaller bodies of water within a reasonable drive. Think smaller lakes, ponds, and canals connected to the Clinton River system. These often overlooked spots can hold surprisingly good bass, especially if you focus on areas with good cover like lily pads, docks, and overhanging trees. Spring (late April-May) is prime time as the bass move shallow to spawn. Focus on the shallows. Summer can be tougher, but early morning and late evening fishing around weed lines can still produce. For a local tip, try using weedless frogs or Texas-rigged worms in the thick vegetation. Be mindful of private property and access restrictions – always obtain permission where necessary. Bass in these smaller waters can be sensitive to fishing pressure, so practice catch and release to help maintain the population.
