Largemouth Bass

De Tour Village, situated on the eastern tip of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, offers fantastic largemouth bass fishing in the protected bays and channels surrounding the St. Marys River. Unlike the fast-flowing river itself, these backwaters provide ideal habitat for largemouth. Areas like Detour Passage and the various bays around Drummond Island hold good populations of bass. Summer is generally the best time to target them, as the water warms and the fish become more active. Focus on areas with weed beds, rocky points, and docks. Topwater lures can be particularly effective in the early morning and evening. A local tip is to explore the shallow, weedy bays with a kayak or canoe to reach areas inaccessible by larger boats. The bass here tend to be opportunistic feeders, so don't be afraid to experiment with different lure presentations.
