Largemouth Bass

Dearborn, Michigan, offers some surprisingly good largemouth bass fishing within its urban landscape. The Rouge River, which winds through the city, and the associated canals and ponds offer the best opportunities. While the Rouge isn't known for trophy bass, it holds a healthy population of fish in the 1-3 pound range, perfect for a fun day on the water. Spring and early summer, particularly during the spawn, are prime times to target bass in the shallows. Look for them around submerged vegetation, docks, and fallen timber. Fall can also be productive as bass feed up before winter. A good access point is along the Rouge River Gateway Trail, where you can fish from the bank. Consider using weedless lures, as the river can be weedy. Also, be aware of water level fluctuations after rain, which can affect fishing conditions.
