Largemouth Bass

Eastlake, Michigan, offers some excellent largemouth bass fishing opportunities centered around Manistee Lake and its connecting waterways. Manistee Lake provides diverse habitat, from shallow weedy bays to deeper, structure-filled areas. The bass here tend to be aggressive, making for exciting fishing. The best time to target them is during the pre-spawn in late spring (May-June) and again in the fall as they fatten up for winter. Look for submerged vegetation, docks, and fallen trees – these are bass magnets. Practical tip: The Manistee River channel provides access to both the lake and the river itself, with several boat launches available. Be aware that boat traffic can be heavy during peak season, especially on weekends. A Texas-rigged worm or a spinnerbait worked along the weed edges can be incredibly effective. The local bass population benefits from the lake's healthy ecosystem, resulting in good numbers of fish, with some reaching impressive sizes.
