Largemouth Bass

Eastpointe, Michigan, while primarily a suburban area, offers surprisingly good largemouth bass fishing in its canals and connected waterways stemming from Lake St. Clair. These canals provide a unique environment where bass thrive, often relating to docks, seawalls, and overhanging vegetation. The best time to target bass here is during the warmer months, from late spring through early fall. The spawn in May and June can be particularly productive. Flipping and pitching soft plastics around cover is a great technique, as is fishing topwater lures early in the morning or late in the evening. A local tip: focus on the canals closest to Lake St. Clair, as these tend to hold the most fish. Be respectful of private property when fishing from the banks. The bass in these canals can be surprisingly large, with some fish exceeding 5 pounds, offering a great urban fishing experience.
