Largemouth Bass

Largemouth bass fishing around Edmore, Michigan, is centered on the many inland lakes and ponds that dot the landscape. These smaller bodies of water offer classic bass habitat, with plenty of vegetation, submerged structure, and shallow areas ideal for spawning. Lake Montcalm is a popular choice, offering good public access and a healthy bass population. Spring (late May/early June) is the best time to target spawning bass in the shallows. Work the weed lines and lily pads with soft plastics and topwater lures. Fall (September/October) is also productive as the bass feed up before winter. Try crankbaits and jigs around deeper structure. A local trick: many of the smaller, less-known lakes can hold surprisingly large bass, but access may be limited to carry-down boats or require some walking. Be prepared to do some exploring. The largemouth in this area are known for their aggressive strikes, so hold on tight!
