Largemouth Bass

If you're looking for largemouth bass in West Michigan, Fremont offers some excellent opportunities. The area is dotted with smaller inland lakes like Fremont Lake, Emerald Lake and Ryerson Lake, all of which hold healthy populations of largemouth. These lakes are known for their relatively shallow, weedy structure, making them ideal for classic bass fishing techniques. Spring is prime time, as the bass move into the shallows to spawn. Focus on areas with submerged vegetation and near docks. Early morning and late evening are particularly productive. Summer can be good too, especially if you target deeper weed lines or transition areas with crankbaits or Texas-rigged worms. For a local tip, the public access site on Fremont Lake can get busy, especially on weekends, so arrive early. Also, be aware that some of the smaller lakes have horsepower restrictions.
