Largemouth Bass

While Gagetown, Michigan, isn't known for massive largemouth bass, the surrounding agricultural landscape is dotted with smaller lakes, ponds, and slow-moving sections of the Cass River that hold surprisingly good populations. These overlooked waters provide a more intimate and less pressured bass fishing experience. The best time to target largemouth here is during the warmer months, from late spring through summer. Focus on areas with thick vegetation, such as lily pads and submerged weeds, as these provide cover and ambush points for bass. A local tip is to try fishing early in the morning or late in the evening when the bass are most active. Access to many of these smaller bodies of water is often limited to private property, so be sure to obtain permission before fishing. The bass in these smaller waters tend to be opportunistic feeders, so a variety of lures and techniques can be effective.
