The unique habitat here is formed by the river's confluence with Lake Erie, creating a mix of currents, weed beds, and canals that bass love. Spring is prime time, as bass move into the shallows to spawn. Focus on areas with submerged vegetation and docks. Fall can also be productive as bass feed heavily before winter. A local tip: explore the canals and marinas off the main river channel. These quieter backwaters often hold good numbers of bass, especially when the river is busy. Also, be aware of the strong currents in the Detroit River; using heavier weights and trolling motor is often necessary to maintain boat control.
