Largemouth Bass

Grant, Michigan, situated in the heart of West Michigan's lake country, is a fantastic base for largemouth bass anglers. The area is dotted with numerous inland lakes, many of which hold healthy populations of largemouth. Summer is prime time, especially early mornings and late evenings when the bass are most active in the shallows. Look for weedy bays, lily pads, and submerged structure, as these are classic largemouth haunts. Soft plastics like worms and creature baits are highly effective, as are topwater lures worked over weed beds. Newaygo County's Chain of Lakes, easily accessible from Grant, offers varied fishing opportunities. A local tip: many of the smaller, less-pressured lakes hold surprisingly large bass. Be sure to check lake maps and regulations, as some lakes have size or horsepower restrictions. The largemouth in this region tend to be relatively aggressive, making for exciting topwater action.
