Largemouth Bass

The Ithaca, Michigan area offers some excellent largemouth bass fishing in its numerous lakes and ponds. These smaller bodies of water, often overlooked in favor of larger destinations, can hold surprisingly healthy populations of largemouths. Look for classic bass habitat: weed beds, lily pads, docks, and submerged timber. Spring is an excellent time to target bass as they move shallow to spawn, but the action continues throughout the summer and into the fall. Topwater lures can be particularly effective in the early morning and late evening, while soft plastics and crankbaits work well throughout the day. A local tip for Ithaca anglers: many of the lakes have public access points, but some are small and can get crowded, especially on weekends. Consider exploring some of the less-traveled lakes for a more secluded fishing experience. Also, pay attention to the water clarity – bass tend to be more active in stained water, where they feel more secure. Remember to practice catch and release to help maintain the quality of the fishery.
