Largemouth Bass

Leonard, Michigan, offers several smaller lakes and ponds ideal for pursuing Largemouth Bass. The numerous kettle lakes scattered throughout Oakland County, many of which are near Leonard, provide excellent habitat. Focus on areas with submerged vegetation, docks, and fallen timber. Spring (pre-spawn and spawn) and fall are the most productive times. Try topwater lures early and late in the day, switching to jigs, Texas-rigged worms, or crankbaits as the sun gets higher. Many of these lakes lack public access, so research boat launches or shore fishing opportunities beforehand. Remember that bass in smaller lakes can be sensitive to fishing pressure, so practice catch and release to maintain a healthy population. Also, be mindful of any local regulations regarding size and bag limits.
