Largemouth Bass

Middleville, Michigan, and the surrounding Barry County offer excellent Largemouth Bass fishing, thanks to a high concentration of natural lakes and ponds. Gun Lake is a popular choice, known for its healthy bass population and diverse structure. Thornapple Lake and other smaller, less-pressured lakes can also be productive. The best time to target largemouth here is during the spring spawning season when they move into shallow bays. Topwater lures, spinnerbaits, and soft plastics are all effective. Summer finds the bass relating to deeper weed lines and submerged structure. Consider using a fish finder to locate these areas. A local tip: many of the smaller lakes have limited public access, so research boat launches and parking options beforehand. The bass in this region are generally healthy and aggressive, with a good number of fish in the 2-4 pound range. Don't be surprised to hook into the occasional 5+ pounder!
