Largemouth Bass

Milford, Michigan, is a fantastic base for pursuing largemouth bass, thanks to its proximity to the Huron River and numerous smaller lakes and ponds within the surrounding state recreation areas. Kent Lake, part of the Huron River system, is a popular and productive spot. Spring (pre-spawn and spawn) and fall are the best times to target largemouth here. During the spring, focus on shallow, weedy areas where bass are preparing to spawn. Soft plastics like Senkos or creature baits rigged weedless are excellent choices. In the fall, as the water cools, bass often move deeper, so try crankbaits or jigs along drop-offs and near submerged structure. A key to success on Kent Lake is understanding the weed growth. Thick weed mats can hold big bass, so don't be afraid to fish heavy cover. The Proud Lake State Recreation Area offers good bank access and boat launches to several smaller lakes, providing diverse fishing opportunities. The largemouth bass population here is healthy, with a good mix of sizes, and it's known for producing some true lunkers.
