Largemouth Bass

The area around Muir, Michigan, is dotted with lakes and ponds that hold some quality largemouth bass. These smaller bodies of water, often overlooked, can provide excellent fishing, especially if you're looking for a more secluded experience. Summer is the peak season, as the bass are actively feeding in the warmer water. Early morning and late evening are usually the most productive times. Try fishing weed lines and lily pads with topwater lures or soft plastics. Many of these lakes have public access points, but some are private, so be sure to check before you go. A local tip: pay attention to the mayfly hatches, as the bass will often key in on these insects. Also, the bass in these smaller lakes tend to be more sensitive to fishing pressure, so try using lighter line and more natural presentations.
