Largemouth Bass

North Muskegon offers some fantastic largemouth bass fishing opportunities, thanks to its proximity to Muskegon Lake and various connected waterways. Muskegon Lake, a drowned river mouth, provides diverse habitat, from shallow weedy bays to deeper channels, perfect for largemouth. The best time to target them is from late spring, after the spawn, through the fall. Look for bass around docks, weed lines, and submerged timber. Spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and soft plastics are all productive lures. Local tip: Early morning and late evening are prime times, especially during the summer months. For bank anglers, there are several access points along the lake's shoreline and connected canals. The bass in Muskegon Lake can be surprisingly large, with fish over 5 pounds not uncommon. Be mindful of boat traffic, especially on weekends, and always practice catch and release to help maintain the quality of the fishery.
