Largemouth Bass

Omer, Michigan, situated near the mouth of the Rifle River as it flows into Saginaw Bay, offers some excellent Largemouth Bass fishing opportunities. While the bay itself is more known for walleye, the backwaters, sloughs, and connected lakes provide ideal habitat for bass. The best time to target largemouth here is during the warmer months, from late spring through early fall. The spawn in May and June is prime time, with bass actively defending their nests in the shallows. The Rifle River offers access to these backwater areas, but a boat or kayak is highly recommended to fully explore the fishery. Look for areas with vegetation, such as lily pads and reeds, as well as fallen timber. Spinnerbaits, crankbaits, and soft plastics are all effective lures. A local tip: pay attention to water clarity, as the Rifle River can become stained after heavy rains. Adjust your lure color accordingly, opting for brighter colors in murky water. The bass in this area are generally healthy and aggressive, making for exciting fishing.
