Largemouth Bass

Onsted, Michigan, offers some fantastic largemouth bass fishing, primarily centered around the numerous lakes in the Irish Hills region. These lakes, like Wamplers, Round, and Evans Lake, provide diverse habitat, from weedy shallows to deeper, clear water. The bass fishing here really heats up in the late spring, particularly during and shortly after the spawn. Look for bedding bass in the shallows, targeting them with soft plastics or topwater lures early in the morning and late in the evening. Summer can be productive as well, though you'll need to adjust your tactics to target bass holding in deeper water or under heavy cover. A local tip: many of these lakes have public access points and boat launches, but parking can be limited, especially on weekends. Arrive early to secure a spot. Also, be mindful of local regulations regarding boat speeds and noise levels, as many of these lakes have residential areas along their shores. The bass in these lakes can be quite chunky, with good numbers of fish in the 3-5 pound range.
