Largemouth Bass

Pellston, Michigan, nestled near the northern Lower Peninsula, is a fantastic base for Largemouth Bass fishing, thanks to its proximity to numerous inland lakes. Burt Lake and Mullett Lake, both part of the Inland Waterway, are popular choices. Focus on areas with weed beds, docks, and submerged timber. Early morning and late evening are prime times, especially during the warmer months. Spring is excellent for pre-spawn bass, while fall can offer explosive topwater action as bass feed up for winter. Plastic worms, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits are all effective lure choices. Burt Lake offers several public boat launches, including one at Maple Bay, making access relatively easy. Largemouth Bass in this region tend to be healthy and aggressive, often reaching sizes of 3-5 pounds, with the occasional larger fish. Due to the colder climate, the growing season is shorter than in southern Michigan, contributing to the robust health of the fish as they store energy for the winter months.
