Largemouth Bass

Pentwater offers anglers some fantastic largemouth bass fishing opportunities, particularly in Pentwater Lake. This inland lake, connected to Lake Michigan, provides a diverse habitat that largemouths love. The best time to target largemouth bass here is during the pre-spawn (late spring), spawn (early summer), and fall. During these periods, bass are actively feeding and more easily located in shallower water. Look for lily pads, docks, and submerged vegetation. Local insight: Focus your efforts on the north end of the lake, where the water tends to be warmer and there's more cover. Plastic worms, spinnerbaits, and topwater lures are all effective. The largemouth bass in Pentwater Lake are known for their aggressive strikes and healthy size, with fish in the 3-5 pound range common, and larger specimens possible. A public boat launch provides easy access to the lake.
