Largemouth Bass

Largemouth bass fishing around Pigeon, Michigan, centers on the numerous inland lakes and the Saginaw Bay tributaries. While Saginaw Bay itself is more known for walleye, the rivers that feed into it, like the Pigeon River itself, and the smaller connected lakes provide good bass habitat. Spring is the peak season as the bass move into shallow weedy areas to spawn. Look for lily pads, reeds, and submerged wood. A spinnerbait or a weedless worm are excellent choices. Summer can also be productive, especially during early morning and late evening. One practical tip is to explore the smaller, less-pressured lakes off the beaten path; these often hold surprisingly good numbers of bass. Many of these lakes have public access sites, but some are small and can only accommodate a few boats. The bass in this area tend to be relatively aggressive, often hitting topwater lures with gusto.
