Largemouth Bass

Ubly, Michigan, situated in the heart of the Thumb, offers some excellent Largemouth Bass fishing opportunities in its surrounding lakes and ponds. While not known for trophy bass, the area boasts numerous smaller bodies of water that hold good populations of bass in the 1-4 pound range. Spring and fall are the peak seasons, with the pre-spawn and post-spawn periods being particularly productive. Try targeting shallow bays and weedlines with spinnerbaits, crankbaits, or soft plastics. Lake Huron is a short drive and can offer some great opportunities as well. A helpful tip: Many of the lakes in this area have limited public access, so it's worth doing some research to find boat launches or shoreline access points. Some local anglers have success fishing from the shore of the Cass River where it widens into slower pools.
