Largemouth Bass

While Oakdale isn't immediately known for its largemouth bass fishing, several smaller lakes and ponds in and around the city offer surprisingly good opportunities. These smaller bodies of water, often overlooked, can hold some decent-sized bass. Look to fish Eagle Point Lake and other smaller, unnamed ponds within the city limits. The best time to target largemouth here is during the warmer months, from late spring through early fall. Focus on areas with vegetation, such as lily pads or submerged weeds, as this is where the bass will be ambushing their prey. A local tip is to use weedless lures to avoid getting snagged in the thick vegetation. Also, many of these smaller lakes are best fished from shore or with a kayak or canoe due to limited boat access. Don't expect trophy-sized bass, but a fun day catching fish in a quiet setting is definitely achievable.
