Largemouth Bass

De Witt, Nebraska, offers some decent Largemouth Bass fishing in its local ponds, small lakes, and the Big Blue River. While not a trophy bass destination, it's a great place to get a bend in your rod. Focus your efforts on areas with good cover like submerged vegetation, fallen trees, and docks. Spring is excellent, especially during the pre-spawn and spawn periods when bass are shallow and aggressive. Early morning and late evening are prime times. In the summer, target deeper water near structure during the heat of the day. Plastic worms, spinnerbaits, and crankbaits are all effective. Consider checking out the public access points along the Big Blue River for some river bass fishing. Largemouth in this area average 1-3 pounds, but larger fish are certainly possible. Remember to check the local fishing regulations regarding size and creel limits before you head out.
