The Raritan River, which flows nearby, holds a decent population, especially around submerged structure and weed beds. More specifically, check out the Six Mile Run Reservoir Site, a local favorite. Spring and fall are prime times, as the bass are actively feeding before and after the summer heat. Early morning and late evening are your best bets for avoiding crowds and finding active fish. A local tip: Focus on the areas where the Six Mile Run empties into the reservoir; the current often concentrates baitfish and, consequently, bass. Also, be aware that the water clarity can vary, so pack a selection of lures from crankbaits to soft plastics to adapt to the conditions.
