Largemouth Bass

Chester, New Jersey might be better known for its scenic landscapes, but it also offers some solid largemouth bass fishing in its smaller lakes and ponds. While you won’t find sprawling reservoirs, local spots like Lake Tranquility and some of the smaller, unnamed ponds scattered around the area hold decent populations of largemouth. The key is to fish these smaller waters with a finesse approach. Spring and fall are prime times, as the bass move shallower to spawn or fatten up for the winter. Look for weed lines, submerged timber, and rocky points. Local anglers often have success with Texas-rigged worms or crankbaits worked slowly along the bottom. Access to some of these ponds may require a bit of exploring, as they aren't always heavily publicized, but the reward can be relatively unpressured bass. Remember to check local regulations regarding boat launches and fishing permits.
