While Englewood Cliffs might be known for its stunning views of Manhattan, it also provides access to some decent largemouth bass fishing. The nearby Hackensack River, particularly the impoundments and backwaters, holds a population of largemouth. Don't expect trophy-sized fish, but a consistent bite can be found with the right approach. Focus on areas with submerged vegetation, docks, and fallen trees. Spring and early summer are prime times, as the bass are spawning and actively feeding. Fall is also productive as they fatten up for winter. A practical tip is to use weedless lures, such as Texas-rigged worms or frogs, to navigate the heavy cover. The bass in this area tend to be pressured, so experiment with different presentations and retrieve speeds. Consider launching a kayak or canoe for better access to secluded areas along the Hackensack.
