Largemouth Bass

Folsom, New Jersey, offers some under-the-radar largemouth bass fishing in its numerous lakes and ponds. While not a trophy bass destination, you can find consistent action, especially if you know where to look. Hammonton Lake and the smaller, unnamed ponds scattered throughout the area are worth exploring. Spring is excellent, as the bass move into the shallows to spawn. Focus on areas with submerged vegetation or structure. Topwater lures can be particularly effective during this time. Summer can be slower, but fishing deeper around docks and drop-offs can still produce results. A local tip: many of the smaller ponds are best accessed by kayak or canoe. Be sure to check for any local boating restrictions. The bass in these waters tend to be on the smaller side, typically in the 1-3 pound range, but the chance for a surprise is always there. Largemouths here are known to respond well to crankbaits, plastic worms, and spinnerbaits.
