Largemouth Bass

South Jersey, including Hammonton, is a fantastic spot to target Largemouth Bass in a variety of freshwater habitats. The area is characterized by its abundant cedar water lakes, ponds, and slow-moving rivers, all stained dark by tannins from the surrounding pine forests. This unique water chemistry affects visibility and bass behavior, so adjust your tactics accordingly. Spring and fall offer the best fishing, as the bass are actively feeding in preparation for spawning and winter. Target areas with submerged wood, lily pads, and weed lines. Flipping and pitching jigs and soft plastics into heavy cover is a productive technique. A local tip: Because of the dark water, using lures with rattles or bright colors can help bass locate them. Be aware that many of the waterways are interconnected, providing ample opportunities to explore different fishing spots. Public access can vary, so research boat ramps and shoreline access points beforehand. Expect to catch bass in a range of sizes, with the potential for some real hawgs.
