Largemouth Bass

Lambertville, nestled along the Delaware River, offers excellent Largemouth Bass fishing opportunities in both the river itself and the nearby D&R Canal. The canal, with its calm waters and abundant vegetation, is a bass haven. Look for largemouth around docks, weed lines, and submerged structure. The Delaware River, while more challenging, holds some surprisingly large bass, especially in the backwaters and around islands. Spring and fall are the peak seasons. During the spring spawn, target shallow, protected areas in the canal. In the fall, focus on areas with baitfish activity. A local's tip: use weedless lures, as the canal is choked with vegetation during the summer. Also, be mindful of the current in the Delaware River; it can be strong, especially after heavy rain. The boat ramp at Bulls Island Recreation Area provides access to both the river and the canal. Bass in this area can range from small to quite large, with fish over 5 pounds a realistic possibility.
