Largemouth Bass

Mantoloking, being close to Barnegat Bay and several freshwater systems, provides ample opportunity for largemouth bass fishing. While the bay itself is saltwater, the adjacent rivers and creeks offer excellent freshwater habitat. The Metedeconk River, for example, is a popular choice. Focus on areas with submerged vegetation, docks, and fallen trees – these provide cover for bass. Spring (April-May) and fall (September-October) are peak seasons, as the bass are actively feeding. Topwater lures, like frogs and buzzbaits, can be particularly effective in the warmer months. A local tip: Pay attention to tidal influences, even in the freshwater portions of the rivers. Bass often move with the tide, seeking out areas with increased current and feeding opportunities. Be aware of boat traffic, especially on weekends, as this area is popular for recreational boating. The bass in this region are known to be aggressive, providing exciting fishing action.
