Largemouth Bass

Don't overlook Moonachie, NJ, when planning your next largemouth bass fishing trip; several smaller bodies of water in and around the Meadowlands area offer surprisingly good fishing. Mill Creek and some of the associated impoundments can hold decent bass populations. The key to success here is adapting to the urban environment. Spring and fall are the most productive seasons. Look for bass holding near structure like docks, bridge pilings, and any available vegetation. Fishing early mornings or late evenings can be particularly effective, as the bass tend to be more active during these times. Soft plastics, crankbaits, and spinnerbaits are all good lure choices. Access can be a bit challenging; look for public access points near parks and industrial areas. Be aware of potential pollution and follow catch-and-release practices to help maintain the fishery. While trophy-sized bass might be rare, you can expect to catch plenty of fish in the 1-3 pound range, and the occasional 4+ pounder is always a possibility.
