Largemouth Bass

North Haledon, NJ, is a convenient base for chasing Largemouth Bass in the many lakes, ponds, and reservoirs of northern New Jersey. While not a trophy bass destination, there are plenty of opportunities to catch quality fish. Spring and fall are undoubtedly the best times to target bass, as they are actively feeding in preparation for spawning and winter, respectively. Local tip: Pay attention to water temperature and clarity. In the spring, focus on shallow, weedy areas where bass are spawning. In the fall, target deeper structure like drop-offs and submerged timber. Plastic worms, crankbaits, and spinnerbaits are all effective lures. Bass in this region can be pressured, so try using finesse techniques like wacky-rigged worms or Ned rigs to entice bites. Access is generally good, with many parks offering boat ramps and shoreline access.
