Largemouth Bass

Rocky Hill, NJ, offers some surprisingly good largemouth bass fishing within easy reach. The D&R Canal and its connected ponds and feeder streams are your key to success. These relatively shallow, weedy waters provide ideal habitat for bass, especially during the warmer months. Spring and fall are peak seasons, as the bass are actively feeding before and after the heat of summer. Topwater lures, such as frogs and buzzbaits, can be deadly in the early morning and late evening, especially around lily pads and weedlines. During the day, try flipping jigs or Texas-rigged worms into heavy cover. The canal towpath offers excellent access for bank fishing, and there are several parking areas along the way. The bass in these waters tend to be on the smaller side, but you'll find plenty of action. Pay attention to water clarity; the canal can get muddy after heavy rains, so adjust your lure selection accordingly.
