Largemouth Bass

Roselle Park might seem like a typical suburban setting, but its access to the Rahway River and nearby smaller ponds offers surprisingly good largemouth bass fishing. These waterways, while not massive, hold decent populations of bass that thrive in the varied structure, from fallen timber to emergent vegetation. Spring is prime time, as the bass move shallow to spawn, making them aggressive and accessible. Fall is another excellent window as they feed heavily before winter. A key local tip: focus on the areas around the bridges and culverts along the Rahway River; these spots often concentrate fish. Also, remember that Rahway River can be shallow in sections, so wading or using a small kayak can be beneficial. The bass here aren't giants, but you can expect to find plenty in the 1-3 pound range, with the occasional larger fish surprising you.
