Largemouth Bass

The Saddle River in New Jersey may not be the first place that comes to mind for bass fishing, but this winding river and its associated ponds offer surprisingly good largemouth bass opportunities. What makes it unique is the blend of suburban and natural environments, creating diverse habitats for bass. Spring and early summer are excellent times to target bass as they are actively spawning and feeding. Focus on areas with submerged vegetation, fallen trees, and rocky outcroppings. A practical tip: access to the river can be limited, so look for public access points along parks and roads. Also, the river can be shallow in some areas, so wading or using a kayak or canoe is often necessary. The bass in the Saddle River are known to be opportunistic feeders, so a variety of lures, including crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and soft plastics, can be effective.
