Largemouth Bass

Largemouth bass fishing around Holly Ridge, NC, centers around smaller lakes and ponds that dot the landscape. While you won't find massive reservoirs here, the intimate scale of these waters can make for exciting and productive fishing. Spring (March-May) is prime time, as bass move shallow to spawn. Fall (September-November) can also be excellent as they feed aggressively before winter. Look for ponds associated with golf courses or residential developments; many are open to the public but require permission. A local tip is to use weedless lures like Texas-rigged worms or frogs, as vegetation can be thick, especially during the summer months. The bass population here consists of a good number of smaller fish, with the occasional larger bass providing a memorable catch. Remember to practice catch and release to help maintain the quality of the fishery.
