Largemouth Bass

New Bern offers fantastic largemouth bass fishing, primarily due to its location at the confluence of the Trent and Neuse Rivers. These rivers, along with their associated creeks and backwaters, create a diverse habitat perfect for bass. Spring is prime time, as the bass move into the shallows to spawn. Fall is also excellent, as they feed heavily before winter. Look for submerged structure like fallen trees, docks, and weed beds. A local tip: try fishing the creeks off the Trent River near Brice's Creek boat ramp – it's a known hotspot. The bass here tend to be aggressive, so don't be afraid to use topwater lures or crankbaits. Remember to check the tide charts, as tidal influence can affect bass activity, especially in the lower reaches of the rivers. Many anglers also have success with Carolina-rigged worms around deeper structure.
