This reservoir, known for its clear, cold water, supports a healthy largemouth population, though it can be a bit more challenging than some other Tennessee fisheries. The key to success is understanding the fish's behavior in this unique environment. Target rocky points, submerged timber, and weed beds with crankbaits, spinnerbaits, and soft plastics. Spring and fall are generally the most productive times. Local Tip: Focus on the upper end of the lake near the river channel, especially during the spring spawn. The water tends to warm up quicker there. Be aware that South Holston Lake is a TVA reservoir, so water levels can fluctuate. Check the TVA website for current lake levels before you go. Largemouth in South Holston can be finicky, so experiment with different presentations and colors. Downsizing your lures and using fluorocarbon line can often make a difference in clear water conditions.
