Largemouth Bass

While Sequim is better known for its saltwater fishing, dedicated anglers can find Largemouth Bass in some of the smaller freshwater lakes and ponds dotting the Olympic Peninsula. These aren't trophy bass waters, but they offer a peaceful alternative to the often-crowded salmon runs. The best time to target Largemouth here is late spring and early summer, as the water warms up and the bass move into shallower areas to spawn. Focus on areas with submerged vegetation and structure. Try working weedless lures like Texas-rigged worms or spinnerbaits around lily pads and fallen logs. Access can be a challenge; many of these lakes are smaller and require a bit of hiking to reach. Check local regulations regarding access and boat launches, as some are private or restricted. The bass population tends to be smaller, so practice catch and release to help maintain the fishery.
